CATTLEMEN’S DAY EVENTS

Cattlemen’s Day Events kick off Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 9:30 am with Cattleman’s College in the Youth Activity Building.

Join us at 10:30 am in the Grandstand Arena for the Arizona Working Ranch Horse Competition. This event is chaired by Kyle Best. Feel free to contact Kyle at 520-954-1205. Of special note and new for this year is the Ranch Horse Sale at 1:30 pm, December 29th.The Arizona Farm Bureau and Farm Bureau Financial will serve lunch to all Cattlemen and their families that are Consignors or registered Buyers at noon in the Plaza area.

The Arizona Ranch Replacement Heifer Show and Sale which begins at 1:30 pm provides an opportunity for Commercial Arizona Cattle Ranches to display their raised replacement quality heifers. In addition, it gives all Arizona ranchers a chance to see a representative sample of the replacement heifers being raised in Arizona.

The Heifer Program is, chaired by Clay Parsons and co-chaired by Rick Lehman of Marana Stockyards, Marana, AZ. This event will provide an opportunity for Arizona Cattle Ranchers to showcase the best replacement females representing their genetic program and its superior offering of heifers that are Arizona raised and Rock Footed. These cattle will work in tough southwest environments and produce calves each year that fit real world agriculture. All cattle will be subjected to a rigorous pre-show sift to guarantee a standard of perfection and soundness required by any cattle buyer. Call Rick to get more information at 602-481-3879.

Four Divisions will be offered for pen of three (3) ranch raised, commercial replacement quality Heifers. Heifers may be either purebred or crossbred. Cash premiums and awards are offered. Entry is open to Arizona raised cattle from Arizona owned ranches. Four Divisions offered:

Division I: European and British Breeds; Pen of (3) three Bred Heifers (purebreds and/or crossbreds); Females 15-36 months of age on or before December 31, 2016. Consignors must provide pregnancy verification signed by an accredited, non-owner, licensed veterinarian at time females are processed at the show.

Division II: European and British Breeds; Pen of (3) three Open heifers (Purebreds and/or crossbreds), Females 15-24 months of age on or before December 31, 2016.

Division III: American Breeds; Pen of (3) three Bred Heifers (purebreds, crossbreds and F1s); Females 15-36 months of age on or before December 31, 2016. Consignors must provide pregnancy verification signed by an accredited, non-owner, licensed veterinarian at time females are processed at the show.

Division IV. American Breeds; Pen of (3) three Open Heifers (purebreds, crossbreds and F1’s), Females 15-24 months of age on or before December 31, 2016.

CATTLEMAN’S COLLEGE

Join us December 29th at 9:30 am in the Youth Activity Building for Cattleman’s College. Dr. Dan Faulkner, UA Beef Extension Specialist will serve as the program emcee.

John Ford, Executive Director of the Santa Gertrudis Breeders International will be presenting “Do EPDs Really Work?” (Utilizing EPDs as a bull selection tool in a commercial cow-calf operation).

Dr. Tommy Perkins, Executive Vice President of the International Brangus Breeders Association will be presenting “Use of DNA in the Seedstock and Commercial Beef Industry” (DNA’s use in sire verification in multi-sire breeding pastures, genetic condition (defect) testing and genomic enhanced EPDs
