Farm Experience Farm Experience at the Arizona National Livestock Show is an interactive area for children to learn about agriculture and how it plays an important role in their everyday lives. |
| Farm Experience Schedule | | Li'l Buckaroo Rodeo | | Pedal Tractor Pull |
One of the highlights of the Arizona National Livestock Show is our Li'l Buckaroo Rodeo where four to six year old boys and girls have the chance to compete like real cowboys. Watch these little buckaroos ride wild and woolly sheep across the arena in the hopes of winning the go round and moving on to the finals. (see Li'l Buckaroo Rules and Schedule)
Returning this year is the Farmer For A Day exhibit that is both entertaining and educational. It provides families with young children an opportunity to play Farmer For A Day and learn how the farm precedes the grocery store. Children find eggs nestled in the straw under the chickens, pluck a shiny apple off the tree and dig deep in the sand for the perfect potato. The focus is on seeing, touching and feeling where food comes from.
Join the excitement at Cook's Racing Pigs where spectators get involved and cheer on the pigs as they run around the track racing to get to the Oreo cookie and ice cream cone that awaits them at the finish line. The Program is not only entertaining, but also provides agricultural education, and promotes the pork industry and humane treatment of farm animals.
A 100 year old Rope Making Machine is mounted on small wooden sleds with 18 strands of twine stretched 17 feet out in front of the sled. Children or adults can turn the handle and watch their very own rope being made from their efforts. When the rope has been made, a honda is tied at one end of the rope creating a 14-foot cowboy or cowgirl's rope. Periodically simple rope tricks are performed for the crowd waiting in line and the on lookers. Children and adults have an opportunity to ask questions about the Rope Making Machine which was factory made at the turn of the century.
Learn how to rope a steer at our Steer Roping Exhibit. Children sit astride a life size fiberglass horse and experience what it is like to rope a steer, just like the cowboys do in rodeos. The motor powered steer moves along a track while the mounted cowpoke tries to rope the steer around the horns. The participants are shown how to hold the lariat and how to throw it.
A new addition to Farm Experience is the Youth Pedal Tractor Pull. Children ages four through twelve pull a sled with a pedal tractor, just like the professional tractor pulls. The Pedal Tractor Pull is produced in cooperation with the Arizona Early Day Gas Enging and Antique Tractor Association. Competition is divided into age group classes. Pedal Tractor Pulls begin at 3:30 pm Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Click here to see rules and additional information.
