Bill Owen - click to go to Bill's Website Bill Owen, Cowboy Artist Some artists paint from photographs of places they've been. Cowboy artist Bill Owen paints what he lives. Through the authenticity in his paintings and drawings, Bill has shared his love of cowboys and art with many people throughout the world. First and foremost a cowboy, he is one of the few artists to have achieved his level of success within the art world without formal art training. In 1969 he dedicated himself to his art full-time and he sold his first drawing one year later. Inducted into the Cowboy Artists of America in 1973, Bill has earned a total of 24 medals and awards at the annual show. He has exhibited at the Whitney Museum in Cody, Wyoming, the Grand Palais in Paris, France, and at the Western Art Show in Beijing, China. In 1989, while practicing for a rodeo, Bill survived a freak accident, which resulted in the loss of sight in his right eye. His confidence was bolstered when, in 1991, he was voted into the National Academy of Western Artists. In 1993, Bill was awarded the Frederic Remington Award for Artistic Merit by the Cowboy Hall of Fame; and that same year he became a member and staff artist of Rancheros Visitadores. The prestigious Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma honored Bill as their Rendezvous Artist in April of 1996; and most recently, the Academy of Western Artists selected Bill Artist of the Year 2002. Bill is passionate about the importance of his artwork being done with good artistic qualities of composition and design; but most passionate that it is done accurately and with complete authenticity. He feels, and will probably forever feel that he is still learning more about painting, technique, composition, color and design; all qualities that create fine art. These feelings are what enable Bill to keep each piece of work he starts exciting in his mind…never allowing himself to be completely satisfied…and always striving to constantly improve. Bill and his wife, Valerie, live in Wickenburg, Arizona. Check out Bill's Website at http://www.billowenca.com/
